Bryony Moore

STATEMENT

Like an intrepid girl scout on a mission, I find a problem (a cause) and devise an action to remedy it. However, the work goes beyond action and performance.

As succinctly put by a friend recently; “If you were in a play, you wouldn’t just be acting, first you’d make the performance hall, and the stage and the props. Then after you’d done the play you’d take it all down again and move on to the next.”

In each work, the idea always far outweighs the action, and the possibility of failure is very real. Once a plan has been decided, I carry it through to its conclusion, whether or not it looks certain to flop.

Alongside the cheerful exploration of failure, other themes include ideas of scale, citizenship and time, and the situation of the artist in relation to these things.
